Sunday, despite dominating during all but the first 15 minutes. Bad marksmanship, bad luck and a good display from Liechtenstein international 'keeper Peter Jehle kept Braga out, the last ten minutes a perfect illustration: sub João Tomás missed two sitters, and a Jorginho header was palmed against the bar by Jehle.

Vitória de Setúbal could only draw 1-1 at Leixões, Jorge Gonçalves giving the visitors the lead on 18 minutes, his namesake Filipe Gonçalves levelling for Leixões five minutes later. , like their Lisbon neighbours Benfica, made up ground on FC Porto at the top with a 2-1 win over a Paçõs de Ferreira, a side whose low position in the Liga belies their quality.
Paços went in front on 10 minutes, Edson finishing off a good cross from Cristiano. Seven minutes later, Sporting were level, Vukcevic
finishing off a Miguel Veloso pass. Still, Sporting were finding it hard to make headway against a combative and cohesive Paços, until, that is, the hour mark: Vukcevic was through on goal but was brought down by 'keeper Peçanha, who saw a straight red.

for challenging the Liga leaders and secured the three points with a cracking shot from outside the area on 57 minutes by their top scorer Lipatin. Nacional's Felipe Lopes was sent off in the dying minutes

on 51 minutes, heading in a long throw-in from Binya. Maurício brought down Di Maria after 70 minutes, Cardozo sending Nélson the wrong way from the spot. And the score was completed with Nuno Gomes

04/11/07 Vitória de Guimarães came from behind against Académica Monday to win 2-1 and move into third place in the Liga.
Pavlovic put Académica in front on 22 minutes, and that's the way it stayed until the second half when Ghilas on 51 minutes and Mrdakovic on 69 gave Vitória the precious three points.

If the clássico had gone the other way, Benfica would have been a single point behind FC Porto, but it is the portistas who are now seven points in front, in turn giving Sporting the chance to catch up on their Lisbon rivals when they play União de Leiria Sunday. Benfica came out all guns blazing in front of over 60,000 at the Luz, but Nuno Gomes squandered an early chance and the game soon reached a stalemate, broken four minutes from half-time by Ricardo Quaresma ("It's always special to beat Benfica"), jinking inside David Luíz on the right before curling the ball low past Quim with the outside of his right boot.
