The Gil Vicente-Belenenses saga (see below) continues, with the Liga ready to kick off this weekend. Gil's application for an injunction against their relegation, ruled by the FPF Council of Justice, has been accepted by the Lisbon Administrative Court. But the wording of the decision from the latter court is ambiguous, and Liga president Valentim Loureeiro has asked the court for clarification before the relevant games involving the two clubs Sunday. Three scenarios are possible:
a) Benfica play Belenenses in the Liga, Leixões play Gil Vicente in the Liga de Honra, as per the decision of the FPF Council of Justice on 22 August.
b) As per the situation that existed before the above decision, the two games are Benfica v Gil Vicente and Leixões v Belenenses.
c) Games involving the two clubs are suspended until a definitive decision is made.
Meanwhile, Gil have sent a fax to FIFA relating the whole process, claiming that the FPF originally advised Gil to go to the civil courts over the registration of the Angolan player Mateus
. It was the fact that Gil took this case to the civil courts which prompted Belenenses to claim that Gil should be relegated instead of them.

Co Adriaanse has resigned as coach of FC Porto. At the root of the resignation lies the Porto board's unwillingness to push the boat out and get Adriaanse what he wanted: a top class striker.
He had been angling for his compatriot, Dutch international Hesselink, to take over from Benni McCarthy, sold to Blackburn, but the price tag of eight million euros was beyond Porto's means. Ironically
(or perhaps not), the Board has announced the return of Hélder Postiga, on loan to St Étienne last season and out of Adriaanse's plans for this. Porto are in England to play a friendly against Portsmouth
Thursday, with former Porto star and assistant to Adriaanse Rui Barros as caretaker. A new coach is expected to be announced next week.
Since José Mourinho left at the end of the 2003-2004 season, four coaches have passed through the Estádio do Dragão: Italian Luigi del Neri, who was sacked before the season began, Spanish
Vítor Fernandez, who lasted half a season, José Couceiro, who lasted the other half, and Co Adriaanse.
Adriaanse came to Porto at the beginning of last season and despite some hiccups along the way, including a disastrous Champions League campaign and white handkerchiefs waved at the Dragão on various occasions, the team won the
Liga title and the Taça de Portugal, Adriaanse's first titles of his career.

will be staying at the club, despite a possible backlash against him from the English public after he was 'involved' in the sending-off of Wayne Rooney at the World Cup.
