Luís Campos resigned as Gil Vicente coach Thursday after a poor start to the season which sees the team planted firmly at the bottom of the SuperLiga. The last straw, though, was the Cup defeat at the hands of Odivelas of the Segunda B. Campos handed in his resignation and it was accepted by the Board, who have since named Ulisses Morais as Campos' successor. Morais brought Estoril back to the SuperLiga this season but left under a cloud before the season began.

Académica president, João Moreno, died Saturday after a long illness. He had been in hopital since October 2003.

FC Porto 'plc' announced a profit of 24.8 million euros for the year July 2003-July 2004. This compares with a loss during the previous year of 18.1 m euros. Reasons for the result were an increase of 65% in gate money, improved marchandising receipts, success in Europe, which gave a gross revenue of 25.1 m euros for the year, and a net profit from transfers of 49.8 m euros.

Luís Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo and Deco are all in the list of 35 players who can win FIFA's 'Player of the Year' award. The award will be presented in Zürich on 30 December, but the list will be whittled down to three in the middle of November. Luís Figo won the award in 2001.
