who fell from the second tier of the stand during the UDL v Benfica game Sunday and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards in hospital. The company claims that all necessary safety measures were met.

Minister of Sport resigned Sunday, just a week after being appointed in a cabinet shake-up. Henrique Chaves
held a controversial meeting with the president and officals of Benfica earlier in the week, widely seen as the powerful club trying to gain influence, especially in terms of refereeing. But Chaves said subsequently he had not thrown the tape of a recent game, presented to him by Benfica, out of the window "merely as a matter of courtesy". His resignation is seen as a sign of instability in the Governemnt.

The president and directors of Benfica requested a meeting with the Portuguese Government
and they had it Monday, talking, amongst other things, about the refereeing in the Portuguese league. There has been some criticism of the move, seeing it as trivial when there is so much fundamental work that needs doing in Portugal.

in the red, it needs five million just to get through the season and has 107 euros in its current account.
