28/08/08 At the weekend, Trofense shipped three goals in half an hour at Sporting. On Wednesday, the Sporting
players found out how it felt, conceding three in 25 minutes at Real Madrid
in the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy. Sporting coach Paulo Bento had decided to field an under-strength side to start, possibly with an eye on Monday's Liga vist to Sporting Braga, but the decision proved disastrous. Although
Izmailov pulled a goal back on the half-hour to off-set two from Higuaín and one from Robben, Madrid got two more before the break from Raúl and an own goal by Pedro Silva. Sporting
went in with their tails between their legs at 1-5, but it was something nearer a first-choice eleven that came out for the second half, and that fact coupled with an easing off by Real let the Lions back into the game.
